Found from day one. Prescriptions go online.
Case study: a barrier-free practice website for doctors, built for a GP practice in Hamm-Heessen, with online prescription ordering.
My team and I built mein-hausarzt-hamm.de together with Dr. Loganathan: fast, GDPR-compliant and barrier-free. Anyone who needs a prescription is done in a few minutes, with no call and no hold queue.
What Our Client Says
As a newly established practice owner, I was looking for someone who could truly rethink my website and not simply recycle existing concepts. Home-IT delivered exactly that: a completely redesigned site with customized, software-independent functions such as a personalized prescription order form with the ability to scan barcodes from packaging, and a blog that I can maintain myself later. Search engine optimization was also taken into account, so the site can gradually become the central hub for my patients. I particularly appreciated the transparent and fair pricing structure. As a new practice owner, my budget was tight, yet there were no unpleasant surprises the costs remained as agreed. Change requests were always implemented patiently and professionally; I never felt that anyone was annoyed, not even during the third or fourth round of fine-tuning. Everything was implemented down to the last detail according to my specifications.
The icing on the cake: Just before the launch, some adjustments had to be made. The guys worked until almost midnight, kept to the agreed launch date, and got everything live smoothly huge respect for that. Based on this consistently positive experience, I'm now entrusting the entire IT of my practice to Home-IT. Thanks again, guys, highly recommended!
Dr. Loganathan, MH HammTaking over a practice means starting from zero online
When you take over a GP practice, you inherit the patients but not the visibility. Some still search for the previous doctor, others simply type "GP in Hamm" into Google. Miss either group and the practice next door wins them.
The phone rings for things that are faster online
Prescriptions, opening hours, directions: a lot of it lands as a phone call and ties up the team. In a busy GP practice that costs time every day, time that's missing for the patients in the room.
How the new practice website in Hamm came about
Understand first, then design
Before we started on design, we asked: who walks into this practice? What makes a patient in Heessen order a prescription online instead of calling? Dr Loganathan and his team gave us the insights, and we turned them into the structure of the site.
Shape a clear path for every visitor
Opening hours, directions, online prescription, contact. We built the navigation so each task is done in two steps. And accessible, so older patients or visitors with low vision can use the site just as comfortably.
A design that fits the practice
With the team in Heessen we tried several design directions: hero images, colour palettes, typefaces. We landed on a calm, welcoming look that fits the practice, approachable and modern instead of an interchangeable template site.
From concept to finished website for the practice in Hamm-Heessen
Planning with clear user flows
We analysed the previous site and built patient personas: who visits and why, what someone with an urgent concern looks for, what a family searching for a GP needs. From that came the wireframes, every click aiming at a clear goal, long before any visual design.
Visual design that fits the practice
With the structure locked in, we moved to the visual side: colour palette, typography, imagery. Everything fits the practice and feels modern and approachable. It feels familiar to patients from Heessen without looking dated.
Built for performance, ready to grow
The site runs on Next.js: it loads fast, even when someone on the way to the pharmacy quickly orders a prescription. It is also built so new features and services can be added at any time.
Support that continues after launch
After launch we take over hosting, monitoring and maintenance, so Dr Loganathan and his team have time for their patients instead of IT. If something needs attention, we get in touch. If not, the site just runs.
Found before the waiting room filled up
The website works for the practice from the start. We measure visibility through Google Search Console.
What the website delivers today:
- Ranked first on Google for the practice and for Dr. Loganathan. Even people still searching for the previous practice find their way to the new one.
- Visible for the important local search "Hausarzt Hamm", and climbing.
- Patients order their prescription online in a few minutes, with no phone call.
- Barrier-free under the BFSG, so older patients and people with impairments can use the site without obstacles.
Ongoing support
After launch the site is live, optimised for mobile, speed and local Google searches like 'Hausarzt Heessen' or 'Online-Rezept Hamm'.
Highlights:
- Live and accessible on every device, including with screen readers
- GDPR-compliant Matomo analytics with no third-party data sharing
- Ongoing maintenance and extensions by HomeIT-System from Herne

Frequently asked questions about practice websites from HomeIT-System
How long does a project take from briefing to launch?
Typically 5 to 6 weeks. That includes 1–2 kick-off calls, 2–3 design rounds and the final sign-off. For larger scopes (e.g. deeper PVS integration) it can take longer — we commit to a realistic date before you sign.
Who writes the copy and provides the images?
Copy is a joint effort: you provide the professional input (services, specialities, practice philosophy), we turn it into web-ready text. Practice photography is optional via our in-house photographer — alternatively we use existing photos or professional stock images.
How many review rounds should we expect?
1–2 kick-off calls to align on goals, 2–3 design rounds, then sign-off and launch. We deliberately keep the overhead low — your time belongs in the practice, not in long meetings.
Can you integrate with our PVS (practice management system)?
If your system offers an open interface (REST API, FHIR, etc.): yes. We are full-stack software engineers, not just web designers — integrations are our day job. We are a certified tomedo® partner; systems like MEDISTAR or t2med are also integrable as long as they expose open APIs.
Online appointment booking — what do you recommend?
cal.com as a self-hosted solution on your own server — GDPR-compliant, no third-party tracking, no monthly licence fees like Doctolib or samedi. You keep full control over patient data and appointments.
Online prescription ordering and other forms — how does this work without PVS access?
We build a GDPR-compliant form application that runs on your own server. Incoming submissions reach you encrypted — as an email to the practice, as an entry in a protected area, or directly in your PVS if an interface exists. Every type of form is possible: anamnesis, appointment request, prescription ordering with barcode scan, contact.
Domain, hosting and email — do you handle those too?
Yes. We migrate existing domains without any loss of service. Hosting runs on redundant German servers — GDPR-compliant with monitoring. Email mailboxes are set up with a German, GDPR-compliant provider on request.
Can we maintain the content ourselves?
Yes. Your site runs on a modern CMS (Strapi) that you edit via a secure login — text, images, new pages, opening hours. If you would rather not, we take care of it. Both paths work, also in parallel.
What is included in the monthly maintenance?
Server hosting on redundant German infrastructure, 24/7 uptime monitoring, software updates (security patches and framework updates), legally compliant imprint and privacy policy via rechte24, cookie consent management via rechte24, domain renewal and SSL certificates. You don't have to look after any of it.
How do we reach you?
Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., by phone and email. For practices with special requirements (extended service hours, weekend on-call) we agree individual service levels — just ask.
Is the site GDPR-compliant and accessible (BFSG)?
Yes, both. GDPR: German servers, no US tracking, no data sharing with third parties without consent. BFSG (German Accessibility Reinforcement Act, mandatory from June 2025): WCAG-compliant implementation, screen-reader ready, sufficient contrast, keyboard navigation. Cookies, imprint and privacy policy are managed via rechte24 and updated automatically when laws change.
What does a practice website cost with you?
We deliberately don't publish a flat rate, because every practice has different requirements. What we commit to: a transparent fixed-price offer after the kick-off call. For context: industry overviews typically quote 4,000 to 8,000 euro for practice websites with modern functionality, up to 20,000 euro for complex builds. A practice website is fully tax-deductible as a business expense.
Will Google find us? How long does it take?
Realistic expectation: noticeably more clicks after 2 to 5 months — Google needs time to index and evaluate new pages. We actively manage: Google Business Profile with address, opening hours and reviews; Schema.org markup for the Local Pack entry in the map box of local searches; competitor research on local search terms; technical SEO with fast load times, mobile-optimised and clean markup.
